E-File/E-Pay Service

Our E-File and E-Pay Service allows taxpayers to file their current year’s tax return, pay quarterly estimates, check on paid estimates, and upload digital copies of tax documents (such as the W-2 or Federal 1040) for both the current year and prior years.

Registering With Our Office

To use the E-File/E-Pay system, you must be registered with the Division of Municipal Income Tax. If you have previously filed a return with our office, or if you have received a bill or delinquent filing notice from us, then you are already registered.

If you are not yet registered, please fill out the Individual Income Tax Registration Form and return it to our office by mail or fax. Once we receive the form, the information will be entered into our system and you will be able to set your PIN.

  • If you mailed your form, please allow one to two weeks before attempting to set your PIN.
  • If you faxed your form or delivered it in-person, please allow 48 hours to pass before attempting to set your PIN.

Setting Your PIN

Your PIN is similar to a password, and it is something that you choose yourself. A PIN will not be provided to you by the Tax office. Please follow these steps:

  1. Input your social security number (or the primary’s social security number in the case of a joint account) and create a PIN number by clicking on the “Don’t have a PIN?” link next to the log in screen’s PIN field.
  2. Make sure that you’ve updated your address with our office, as your current house number is required when setting up your new PIN.
  3. The PIN is required to be a combination of letters and numbers (anywhere from 4 to 10 characters). Any letters that are part of your PIN are case sensitive.
  4. You will receive confirmation of your PIN’s creation on the log in page.

Once you have created your PIN and logged into our system, you may prepare your current year’s City of Lakewood income tax return online, file an extension, upload current year and prior year tax documents, and/or check your estimates and prior year credits.

Using the E-File System

To use the E-File/E-Pay System, log in using your social security number and PIN. Once you are logged in, choose from the options and follow the instructions within the system to complete your desired tasks.
